Term One Portfolio
This photo was used as the sight sense for my fall photos. I really like this photo. I think it is very interesting because the leaf in the front is what the main focus is, but then when you look closer the stem from the leaf acts as a leading line, really drawing you in to the photo. I also think the leaf itself is very interesting. It has all these interesting flecks of colour on it which adds lots of depth to the photo. I also like this photo because it really shows the change of summer to fall. Some of the leaves are still green, some are in the midst of changing colours and some in the back have already turned red and orange. I am very proud of this photo and am happy it turned out.
This photo was for the first weekly photo challenge we did this year. I used this one for my hearing sense because in the fall it rains a lot, especially in Vancouver. This photo was also a redo because the first time I took it my shutter speed wasn't fast enough so the water droplets looked blurred. If I take another photo similar to this one, I want to use the sharpen tool on photoshop to really make the water droplets stand out. I think it looks good now, but it could look that little bit better if they're sharpened.
This was used for the gratitude weekly photo challenge. My gratitude in this photo is dance. I've been dancing for a long time and I'm very grateful for it. I'm going to use this photo as a Christmas present and give it to my friend who is in the photo. When I took this photo, it turned out very grainy. So instead of trying to get rid of the noise, I added some to make it look like I did that on purpose. I really like vintage black and white photos so I thought that I could create one myself.
This was one of my gratitude photos. My gratitude for this photo was being able to live in Canada and in a free country. Even though this isn't a real maple leaf, I thought it looked close enough to a real one since it was red and had points. I really like the depth of field in this photo because it's very shallow. This makes the leaf stand out even more and makes it look more interesting. It was hard to capture the leaf because it was very windy that day so it kept blowing around everywhere. But next time I'd like to try and place the leaf so that more of it is showing since it's kind of flat on the ground.
This photo was used in my opposites weekly photo challenge. I had a pink rose at home and it started dying, so that gave me the idea of using it in my opposite photo. Pink roses are one of my favourites and I was happy with how the photo turned out. I like how the pink of the flower really stands out on the dark background. I had to take quite a few different shots to end up with one that I was happy with. I tried many different angles and camera setting. In class, I used photoshop and made the outside of the live rose a but darker than the centre and thought that that made it more interesting to look at. I think if I were to retake this photo I would try and incorporate some of the inside of the rose because it has so much detail.
This photo was used as one of my environment portraits. I was very proud of myself with this photo because this was actually a redo. The first time I took it my model was a little out of focus and zoomed out too much. So I decided to retake it and was so happy when it came out in focus! If I were re-redo this photo again, I would try and do it on a more sunny day so that the shadow of the fence on her face stands out more. That was one of things I liked the first time I took the photo. The portrait project really taught me that I should take a series of the same photos because I learned over the course of this project that a lot of your photos won't turn out. I had lots of fun with this project and I think my friends had a lot of fun modelling for it!
This is definitely one of the photos I am most proud of. I still can't get over how good it looks! My model was also super happy with how it turned out which makes it even better. I think it looks so fantastic with her hair and the lights. I also really liked this one because of how it looked before I edited it. It really didn't require a lot of editing because of the lights that we used. For this assignment I was originally going to use my other friend as a model also; however, she was wearing a hoodie so it made her look a little bit awkward in the photos. I'm so happy with this photo and am going to give it to my friend as a gift!
This was one of my studio portraits. I was so pleased at how these turned out because I had spent a lot of time planning them and deciding how I wanted them to look. My friend Emma was my model and she was awesome! She was very comfortable in front of the camera and her red hair looked so good with the lights on. I really enjoyed doing this project because last year I never used the studio for any of my photos so it was lots of fun to try out the lighting. I also really enjoyed this assignment because I liked how professional my portraits turned out. Overall, this assignment was so much fun do to and I hope to do some more studio portraits this year.
